The Blue lagoon is fed by the water output of the nearby geothermal power plant Svartsengi and it is one of the most popular tourist destination in the country. The new service, bigger and better was launched in June 1999 and has been improved rapidly after that. More and more visitors visit it each year and because of its unique position it enjoys great popularity of media worldwide. Soon after people began to apply to the Blue Lagoon revealed that its water works very well to alleviate the suffering of those who suffer from skin diseases (psoriasis) and there are special facilities for them. The patients come from around the world to enjoy the healing power of the Lagoon.
